FASTING

The Joe and Sally Saga!

I met Joe "In passing" at the local health club. It wasn't until a long time friend of mine suggested a cross-country bicycling excursion did I actually hire Joe. This was 2 1/2 years ago! I was raised an athlete so this feat wasn't some pipe dream. I felt as if I needed a little motivation and Joe's seemed like the person to turn to.

As a competitive swimmer, all my coaches talked about was carbo-loading, lots of pasta, grapenuts, bagels, etc. Joe on the other hand, did not. He suggested a product to me called Greens Plus. He also talked a lot about juicing and eating lots of raw veggies and fruits. I on the other hand acknowledged his words and that was about it. I mean, I have been an athlete most of my life and always did fine with what I was consuming so why change. Needless to say my reluctance to change cost me dearly. I started my metamorphosis slowly. I ordered a bottle or two of Greens Plus and I would drink it once a day in the morning. Meanwhile, some of my friends had lost weight on "The Zone" diet, so I incorporated some of Dr. Sears philosophies into my day.

I continued to train hard with Kathy, Joe's wife. Felt stronger, but I still weighed 142 lbs. I was at odds with myself. I questioned myself daily. What to eat? When to eat? What to drink? How to drink? I felt so confused. Joe approached me and said Shel, I have an awesome book for you to read. I said OK. I felt a little more open to change at this point. He let me "The Power Of Super Foods." I read a few chapters at night. Joe would call in the morning and ask; "What chapter did you get to?". I would tell him and we would have a brief conversation about the book.

I finished your book on March 13, 1998. The next morning I sat at the kitchen table and gathered my thoughts on mono dieting and juicing. I made a grocery list, pulled out the calendar and placed three large marks on the dates of March 16, 17, and 18. I had decided that I was ready to change. I wiped the dust from my juicer and nervously awaited Monday morning. Monday came and went. Much to my surprise, with ease I grooved into my next mono day. All of a sudden it was Wednesday evening and I wasn't ready to eat! I had never in my life felt so strong, so energized, so detoxified!! As I stuffed fruit into my purse, my husband asked; "What are you doing?" I replied with a grin; "Living!" We headed to the airport. On the plane, while everyone else ordered alcohol, sodas and juice I reached into my bag and pulled out my water bottle. At lunch time I dove into my purse and started munching on a variety of fruits. I was traveling and not letting it affect the new me!! Change is awesome!!

I now incorporate a mono day or too weekly. This is going to sound totally out of control but, I get so excited about my mono days, that the night before it's hard for me to fall asleep! Crazy isn't it? Well, only if you haven't experienced mono dieting! I am now 14 lbs. lighter! I am stronger, faster and leaner!! Yesterday, April 17, after Joe's spinning class, I was so invigorated I decided that somebody needed to be thanked! I thanked Joe for sharing his knowledge, motivation and patients! Now, I would like to say Thank You! "The Power of Super Foods" has changed my life! Not just physically, but mentally as well! Keeping up with a two year old, a husband, a part-time job and 16 acres of farmland used to be hard! I now have the ability to actually like my two year olds level of energy, and the progress in my relationship with my husband and others has been beautiful, as well as keeping up with the farm!!!! It's amazing what a little energy can do for you! So, a million times Thank You!!!!
